Chapter 16 - Data Handling Lesson 1.1

Data Handling is a major part to the broad topic of Statistics.

Thus what exactly is Statistics?

Please go through the 2 videos posted below.

Thus do you have a better understanding of Statistics?

In your own words,
1) Explain what do you think Statistics is all about?
2) How can you apply Statistics in your decision making?

  1. 1) I think that statistics are a collection of data based on the calculation of numbers.

    2) I can use Statistics to improve the accuracy of my collected information or to collate and make my information easier to understand.

  2. 1. I think that, after watching the videos, that statistics are portions of the whole that is studied and then reflected on the whole.

    2. I can use statistics to support my data. For example, for the latest Math project, I can use the information collected to support that the road is congested and suggesting a solution based on that.

  3. 1. I think Statistics is a collection of data that is collected and studied.

    2. I can use Statistics to support my ideas and also to improve the accuracy if my information. Example: I can use Statistics gathered to show that 7 o'clock is the least congested time around SST, and to prove it.

  4. 1. I think that statistics is data collected from a source and studied to help solve problems and difficulties.

    2. I can use statistics to predict the up coming situation and support my inference with it to help identify and solve problems with the prior knowledge and information.

  5. 1. It is a form of data collected from a study of some objects overtime.

2.We can use it to make sure that our decisions are accurate and also predict upcoming trends so that we can make valid decisions.

  6. 1. I think that statistics are datas that are being collected during an experiment then studied to produce a final result.

    2. I can use statistics to show my data collected for my eg. Maths project, so as to show the congestion status of the road at different times.

  7. 1. It is data collected through picking out information from a large amount of information.

    2. We can use it to support our ideas, predict upcoming situations or trends, etc.

  8. 1) It is about analysis of data collected and helps to collate information to bring about a solution.
    2) By studying all the collected data in the end. After analysing the common and pattern in those numbers, I can deduce a fact which supports my hypothesis.

  9. 1) I think that statistics is analyzing the data given and then presenting them.

    2) I can use statistics to make more precise decisions. For example, if the statistics show that a particular group of people does not fit my criteria, then, when i am making my decision, i must make sure that I avoid that particular group of people.

  10. 1. Statistics is a type of process where information is taken from different sources, which may sometimes have various factors affecting it (eg. time), before they are collated and then summarized to find out what we want to know (eg. a trend of something). After finding out what we want, the collated information that is summarized is usually presented and the way we present depends on the type of information we want. For example, finding out the number of Singaporeans having heart attacks per year helps us to find out whether the number is increasing or decreasing and to also help us predict what we can do based on the results, so this information requires a line graph which helps us to interpret the information easier before we come out with a plan to what we can do. This is the process.

    2. Using statistics and the process mentioned from the answer in question one, I would be able to solve many different problems in projects (eg. the mathematics project) or even in real-life by gathering the necessary information and looking out for factors which cause the problem, and this is usually our goal. After that, presenting the information is one way we apply statistics in descision making as we must decide the most significant way to present so as to be able to analyze the information better. After presenting the information out, we can achieve this goal and analyze all the information collected easily. This enables us to come up with possible solutions to solving the problem in many different ways. From here, we would be able to make different descisions to the different solutions come up.

  11. 1) I think statistics is viewing a comparison in an orderly manner, a collation of gathered data for a better understanding of situations.
    2) I can use it to back up my theories, compare results & come to a conclusion, use it as a storage of results for future decision-making.

  12. 1) Statistics is a form of collecting data in an orderly manner according to groups.

    2) I can use statistics to compare the results that i have gotten from a research and use statistics to store results for other events in the future

    2) I can make conclusions and prove them with statistics.
